Horse racing & greyhounds
Racing is the subject this site was built around, and a price means little until its terms are clear. This section takes them in the order a punter meets them on a card.
Starting price and ante-post decide when a price is fixed. Non-runners and the Rule 4 deduction change what a bet returns, and an each-way bet splits into a win part and a place part at the same stake apiece, which doubles the outlay. Greyhounds and tips for both codes complete the picture.
Duty is the other thing that sets racing apart. The general remote rate goes up to 25% on 1 April 2027, yet remote bets on UK horse racing remain at 15% General Betting Duty, and pools fall under Pool Betting Duty, also 15%.
